About

Idun Carling is a musician, composer, and variety artist with roots in the older styles of jazz.

She grew up in Sweden and toured all over Europe with her family band from a young age.

They predominantly played “revival trad-jazz” and even featured circus and variety acts in their shows, where Idun Carling could be seen doing a balancing act.

Now she is making a name for herself in the Los Angeles music world.

Idun Carling’s own quintet began playing at swing dances around the LA area but are now booking venues and festivals around the country.

With her band, she brings hot traditional jazz with a touch of Los Angeles cool.

Her most popular album release on Spotify is IDUN which features Gunhild Carling on the trumpet and trombone, Billy Stritch on the piano, Chloe Feoranzo on Clarinet and Saxophone, Luca Pino on guitar, and Daniel Glass on drums.

In January-February of 2026, she toured Europe as a trombone soloist with various groups.

Idun Carling dabbles in the world of soul and pop music as well, with the self-produced album “Blue Salvia.” Her compositions are a mix of 80s synth music and RnB, while staying jazz adjacent.

She has had an on-going passion for song-writing and arranging and has a comprehensive list of music in her inventory.

She headlined at Merkin Hall in New York, in September of 2024 in a tribute show to the famous composer Sholom Secunda.

Idun Carling occasionally tours the United States and Europe together with her mother, Gunhild Carling, and together they make a very energetic duo. They can be seen as recurring head liners at places like Birdland Jazz Club in New York, Keystone Korner in Baltimore, and Nyack Jazz festival in New York.

Idun Carling is often a feature on Gunhild Carling’s you tube channel, where she live streams a music program every week.
